HOW TO PROPERLY SOURCE IMAGES FROM FREE SITES, USING LINKS TO UPLOAD IMAGES, AND PROPERLY SOURCING IMAGE SOURCES

It's Time To Don The Teacher's Hat! ๐Ÿ˜Š

As a newbie Uptrenndian a couple of months back, I didn't take lots of things into cognizance as regards my approach to posting contents because I really didn't know that it was necessary to do so. I'm not exactly new to writing as I've been doing this for some time now, so I simply assumed that all it took to churn out good posts here on Uptrennd was to be creative and all, but hey! I was wrong!

Firstly, I wasn't paying attention to the need for using the features on the Uptrennd 'create-post' dashboard, so my posts, though informative ended up as bland, in some cases. When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse, they say, is inevitable. That was the case for me because I undermined the majority of the tools that would have helped me do better in creating contents on the platform!

Anyways, barely a week ago, our super 'Amazonic' Chancellor, @TigerLily made a video and that video was like an answered prayer! You wouldn't understand how excited I was that day after I learnt this particular content creation hack, and since then, my confidence level increased in no small measure, as it relates to referencing my image sources and adding links to my post! Hehehehehehe!

She actually asked that we paid attention to the lesson because soon, we would be teaching other newbies in a similar vein, and indeed today, here we are! It's time for me to don the teacher's hat, and I really can't wait to show y'all (newbies especially) what it feels like to have adequate and accurate information at your fingertips, especially as it concerns creating and uploading contents in the world of writing, and blogging generally.

For the purpose of this assignment, I'll be explaining the proper way to reference image sources using links, as well as customising links rather than just dropping them in their raw or coded form. Asides from these, I'll also be examining the various free platforms and websites where we can pick our pictures or images from.

Proper image sourcing, as well as using the right pictures that almost perfectly expresses the author's thoughts is just as important as the message being passed across. This is why it is very important that we learn the necessary tricks needed in doing things right.

Now, it's wrong to take pictures from Google, etc as highlighted above because they aren't free to be used, besides, you are using these images for commercial purposes here on Uptrennd, so it won't be fair that you make money off other people's work that hasn't been declared as free to be used. That's it. As we all know, plagiarism here on Uptrennd is not acceptable, regardless of the content you are sharing, and this is a major reason why the use of copyrighted (protected by copyright law) materials or pictures are highly prohibited and discouraged. Trust me, you don't want to be caught in that ugly web, because it doesn't end well.

Having established the above, kindly come with me as I take you on a short journey as it relates to the proper way of getting by, viz รก viz posting, especially on Uptrennd.

You see, there are many sites that allow Bloggers and Content creators to take pictures from their sites for free at no costs, whatsoever. In this post, I'll be highlighting 8 of such sites, though they are not limited to these. In no particular order, they are:

1.
Pixabay.com

2. Unsplash.com

3. Pexels.com

4. Picography.com

5. Skitterphoto.com

6. Burst.com (by Shopify)

7. Stocksnap.com

8. Kaboompics.com

Please be informed that despite the fact these sites are well tagged as free (to use images) sites, there are things to look out for. Usually, there are 2 categories of pictures on these sites. They are:

i. The 'Sponsored (ads)' images that require users to part with some money. In such cases, you'd be seeing things like:

(a) 'Sponsored Images iStock LIMITED DEAL: 20% off with PIXABAY 20 coupon'. An example of this is shown below:

ii. The 'Free category' that does not require users parting with money. You'll see an inscription like the one that's seen below: 20,774 Free images of Delicious Food Related Images: Food  Delicious  Fruit   Healthy  Sweet  Nutrition   Eat Fresh Breakfast   Vitamins'.

You would have noticed that immediately beneath the iStock sponsored images shown on the website are the ones free to be used.

Please note that you are not to lift pictures from the iStock category because they are not free. You are only permitted and expected to pick pictures from the category underneath that says 'FREE".

How To Properly Locate Images As well As Source Them...

Step 1: Visit any of the preferred sites cited above with your ideal picture in mind. For the purpose of this post, we will be using pixabay.com

Step 2: Type in the picture of the item you would love to search, then keep scrolling till you see the most desired picture that resonates with you, e.g., let's search for 'Jollof Rice'.

Step 3

When the pictures eventually load, take a good look at the pictures categorisation between stock sponsored ads and Free images, then click on the option of images that reads 'Free for commercial use'. When you see your preferred picture, click on, and open it.

Step 4

When you finally decide on a picture, right-click your mouse or mouse tracking pad to see loads of options for the next line of action. The first option immediately you right-click is usually 'Open link in new tab'.

Step 5

As soon as the picture is opened, carefully check the link in the URL to be sure it's in 'jpg' or 'png' format. The 'PNG' or 'jPG' is usually the acceptable formats in uploading images on Uptrennd. Remember, one way to know if your picture is in 'PNG' or 'JPG' format is this: open the image on a new tab or window, then study the link in the URL. Just at the end of the link is where you'd find the 'png' or 'jpg' details.

Step 6

The next important part is good proof that shows where the pictures were gotten from. To achieve this, copy the 'png' or 'jpg' link. After you copy, go to the 'create post' dashboard on Uptrennd, you'll see this highlighted icon...

Next thing to note is how to use the feature. This is the option that helps creators in using links to upload pictures, rather than just uploading screen shots.

To achieve this, copy the link to the image, go back to the dashboard of 'create post' on Uptrennd, then click on the 'greater than' and 'less than' sign on the dash board(this sign actually lol '< >'), then enter the 'png' or 'jpg' link you have just copied this way: <img src="https://pixabay.com/photos/jollof-jollof-rice-ghanaian-dishes-4659747/"> then click this sign '<>' again to immediately you finish entering the link, and immediately the link would be converted to a picture.

In a case where you have multiple pictures to upload, just repeat the process using the same method, and voila! Your pictures would certainly be there. Please note that this is best done before you enter the texts of the post you are about drafting or uploading. It could be equally achieved after you have drafted your post, but clicking on the link would reveal lots of codings which might confuse you, but of course, if you know your onions, you won't have a problem.

Step 7: Now, this is as important as the post you are about uploading. You must have seen some people customise the links referencing their image sources, and then you wonder how they do it. Well, here you are! Go to the 'create post' dashboard of Uptrennd once again. carefully locate the link icon as pictured below:

Step 8:
This particular icon has two slots. One for the actual 'png' or 'jpg' link, and the other for a readable title (more like a customized name) you want the link to go by. Before this, however, you'll have to write the title you want the link to bear just beneath your post. Highlight the title, go up to the link icon, enter the png link in the 'URL' slot, and automatically, the customized title you ad earlier typed and highlighted beneath your post would enter itself in the title slot of the link. immediately that happens, the highlighted title beneath your post takes on a blue colour which is a sign that it has become a clickable link! Please see the diagram below...

With the steps highlighted above, uploading pictures from the right websites, properly sourcing and referencing them, as well as the various hacks required to have a seamless approach to writing/drafting posts on uptrennd would be as easy as reciting your dialect's alphabet, hehehehehe.
